Why We Built BizAI
A story of frustration that became a mission
In 2022, our founder Jethan was running a small consulting firm in Johannesburg. Like most South African small business owners, he was juggling Gmail for email, WhatsApp Business for customer messages, Excel spreadsheets for tracking leads, Sage for accounting (that didn't talk to anything else), and a personal cell phone for customer calls.
The frustration was real: One day, a potential client messaged on WhatsApp at 9am. Jethan was in a meeting. He saw the message at 2pm and replied. Too late—they'd hired his competitor.
Another month, he lost R15,000 because a customer's details were in Excel, but the quote was in Gmail, and the final invoice didn't match. Customer disputed it. He had no records to prove otherwise.
He looked for solutions. Salesforce quoted R60,000/month with 6-month implementation. Zoho was confusing and US-based. Microsoft Dynamics required expensive consultants. Nothing was built for South African small businesses.
So he built BizAI.
